AUTOIMMUNE THYROID OR NOT?
“My doctor says my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) and T4 levels are normal, but I still feel horrible, well I guess it’s not my thyroid”. Yea this is what I have had a lot of people say and yes, I use to be one of those people.
Yes, for years I struggled with thyroid issues unknowingly which was manifesting as multiple GI problems, on and off fatigue, weight issues etc…till I found a functional medicine provider.
She insisted in me getting a comprehensive thyroid panel which then revealed I had Hashimotos disease, an autoimmune disease. So if you like to know if you just have a thyroid problem or if it is an autoimmune disease then you need to advocate for yourself and insist that your health care provider do a comprehensive thyroid panel which includes- TSH, free T3, T4, reverse T3,TPO antibodies, TG antibodies.
